Rooted in Vegas: Meet Chop 808 & itsrayiguess
Featured on the Socialista Podcast
Long-time Las Vegas residents Chop 808 and itsrayiguess share their perspective of growing up Downtown and how they began performing. Chop is no new name. He has performed here at the Ferguson’s Jam sesh and brought so much energy and spiri t to our stage. Both Chop and Ray have a collaborative mentality that matches the Ferguson’s mission. Upon meeting them I could feel their excitement and passion they indivdually and collectively have for our city. They use their language of music as a connector, knowing that it brings more people together.
I first met Chop at local meeting spot and delicious café, Makers & Finders. We originally met to talk about featuring his single on the podcast but after chatting more I knew he was someone I wanted to work with. If you didn’t know, Chop made the intro music to the podcast!
In January I witnessed these two in action at the Bunk House for the Dreams Never Die debut, and I was amazed to see the love and support from the audience. It can be rare to find a musician who captivates the audience in such a way as these two do. To see how involved with the community they are, really drew me in.
When this episode aired Chop and Ray were showcasing their latest singles at Brooklyn Bowl. We sat down and chat more about their experiences growing up partly in Las Vegas and cities such as Detroit and Memphis. They both expressed having someone close to them who introduce them to rap, and a mutual contact connected them at a recording studio. From watching Flinstones to producing music together, this duo is magic.
